Supervision
Dr. Jennifer Monforton, our Staff Psychologist and Director of Supervision, offers clinical supervision to both Masters-level students and practicing psychotherapists. As an independent practitioner, she has completed extensive training in clinical supervision, far exceeding 45 hours, and meets all the requirements set by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) for Clinical Supervisors. You can find more details about Dr. Monforton and her postgraduate training on her bio.
Clinical Supervision is an excellent way to foster professional development and gain essential experience and insights, particularly for those pursuing CRPO registration. Through supervision, therapists can hone their therapeutic skills, deepen their self-awareness, and better understand the diverse clientele they may encounter. This process ensures adherence to Safe and Effective Use of Self (SEUS) practices, which is crucial for safeguarding client safety and well-being.
During supervised counseling or psychotherapy sessions, Dr. Monforton collaborates with supervisees to evaluate their strengths, pinpoint areas for improvement, and set learning objectives. These sessions involve tackling specific cases, addressing ethical concerns, and exploring strategies for establishing or enhancing a private practice. Clinical supervision is an efficient and effective way to expand your skillset and gain valuable experience as a Registered Psychotherapist.
A word from Jen:
It is one of my privileges as a psychologist to mentor therapists in training. I can support you in honing your skills and finding your voice as a therapist, as well as in caring for yourself while engaging in this challenging and rewarding vocation.
I have extensive training in providing CBT for anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders. In my therapy work, I incorporate these skills within an integrative approach, combining elements of mindfulness, self-compassion, and client-centered perspectives. I carry this approach into supervision as well. That is, I can support you in integrating CBT and mindfulness skills into any other modalities that inspire you as a therapist.
In addition to learning therapeutic techniques, our supervision will also address ethical issues that arise, struggles with confidence, working with challenging cases, and considering practice management so that this work is sustainable and accessible to you. We can dig in deep when there is doubt, help you learn more about yourself as a therapist, and often have a good laugh to acknowledge that we are human in our imperfections.
As with my therapy work, my supervision practice is rooted in openness, accessibility, and anti-oppression. I will strive to understand you as an individual, carrying your own unique experiences, and will support you so that you feel safe and empowered throughout the process.
