Staff Psychologist
Thank you for your interest in working with me. Whether you are brand new to therapy or have past experience, I commend you for taking steps to care for your mental health. It is not always easy! As a therapist, I strive to create a warm and supportive environment where you can safely grow, explore, and challenge yourself. All of my work is grounded in compassion and empathy, which I believe are crucial to change. The most lasting and meaningful transformation happens when we feel seen and understood, just as we are.
In terms of therapeutic style, I use an integration of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and self-compassion approaches. This will help you to identify patterns of thoughts, emotions, and behaviours that might not be serving you, while also encouraging you to stay present in the moment and grow in kindness towards yourself. I take a collaborative stance in my work, so that we can work together to set goals that are tailored to your individual needs and priorities. I will help you to better understand your challenges, offer you tools to practice in your daily life, and will likely use a fair dose of humour along the way.
For the past ten years, a significant portion of my work has involved treating Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). I can use this experience to help you determine whether OCD might be part of your experience and how it relates to other types of anxiety and facets of your personality. To treat OCD, I use a combination of Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) to help you to gradually decrease compulsive behaviours and mindfulness techniques to help shift the relationship you have with your intrusive thoughts. OCD can feel both overwhelming and isolating, and I strive to bring you clarity and the feeling that you are not alone.
I also have extensive experience working with Insomnia and sleep-related anxiety. I am trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), which is a highly effective and accessible treatment. This approach will help you to shift sleep-related behaviours that are preventing you from achieving consistent, deep sleep, explore beliefs around sleep that might be increasing your anxiety, and re-engage with rewarding aspects of your life that may have been abandoned due to fear or fatigue. I am here to help you reclaim the nighttime as a time of rest and to regain trust that your body can give you quality sleep once again.
Additionally, I often work with clinical issues such as Social Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Generalized Anxiety/Worry, and Depression. I can also help you manage struggles with perfectionism, self-esteem, and assertiveness. Finally, I am a fat positive therapist who adopts a Health at Every Size (HAES) approach. I can help you explore themes of body acceptance, intuitive eating, and letting go of diet culture.
In my spare time, you will find me sampling all of the pizza that Toronto has to offer (a hard job, but someone has to do it!), attending pilates classes, and going on adventures around the city with my daughter. Thank you again for your interest. I look forward to hearing from you.
